Nine years. Still no real limits in NC.
It’s time to SHOW UP & say NO.
How To Say NO
Sign our petition and email written comments before June 15, 2026.
In 2017, we learned about North Carolina’s massive PFAS pollution problem. Since then, other states have passed PFAS laws and regulations controlling pollution and ensuring polluters pay—but not North Carolina.
Now, North Carolina's Environmental Management Commission (EMC) wants to hand industry polluters another victory by adopting rules the polluters wrote themselves.
No enforceable limits. No penalties. Zero consequences for nearly 500 industrial facilities dumping PFAS and 1,4-dioxane into our rivers. Sign this petition. Comments close June 15.
Then, show up to a public hearings before May 12. Make the EMC look you in the eyes. Hear your stories. See your humanity. Tell the EMC what these polluter loopholes are costing your family.
Say NO to NC Polluter Loopholes. Abolish the EMC.
How To Show Up
Attend a public hearing and sign-up to give oral comments.
The EMC is hosting six hearings total across the state. Three hearings about 1,4-dioxane and three hearings about PFAS. You can talk about both compounds at any hearing, but to ensure your comment is counted, you should at least mention the assigned chemical. For example, if you attend a PFAS hearing, you may talk about 1,4-dioxane, but you should mention PFAS too. If you would like to talk about both PFAS and 1,4-dioxane, we suggest you start your statement with the following language:
“I request that this comment be included in the public record for both the 1,4-dioxane and the PFAS monitoring and minimization rules.”
Speaker registration for each hearing begins at 5:00 PM and the hearing will begin at 6:00 PM.
