Turning Outrage into Action

Clean Cape Fear is a grassroots community movement focused on people power. We build alliances, drive science, hold elected leaders accountable, and deliver results.

Grassroots Advocacy

We are an all volunteer grassroots community group who believes any conversation about PFAS should begin and end with the communities most impacted. Nothing about us, without us.

From testifying before Congress to giving public comments at the North Carolina state legislature, Clean Cape Fear shows up and creates space to amplify local voices within the national and state PFAS debates. We regularly meet with lawmakers and administrators to demand accountability and protections from PFAS exposures

Legal Action

For over half a century, residents in our region were overexposed to extreme levels of PFAS. We deserve justice and regularly partner with legal teams to ensure PFAS polluters are held responsible and pay for the clean-up.

Defending Federal PFAS Drinking Water Standards

In 2024, Clean Cape Fear joined forces with EarthJustice and the National PFAS Contamination Coalition to intervene in multiple lawsuits attacking the new federal PFAS drinking water standards.

Access to Health Studies

In 2019, Clean Cape Fear partnered Center for Environmental Health, Cape Fear River Watch, and Toxic Free NC to encourage the U.S. EPA to use its full authority under the Toxic Substance Control Act (TSCA) to require Chemours pay for a comprehensive independent health study on 54 PFAS found in our air, soil. water, food supply, and human blood.
